 Lili Marleen

Lili Marleen (1981) is a German film produced by Rainer Werner Fassbinder. It tells the story of a popular song in Germany, with the same name. This song was composed by one soldier in 1915 (First World War), to his girlfriend Lili and his lover Marleen. It talks about love, death and separation. In the Second World War, one German singer Wikie started to be famous singing “Lili Marleen”. The Fürer declared her and “Lili Marleen” as a one symbol of Nazism. But Wikie involved with a Jewish musician and worked on a Nazism resistence. For this reason, she was pursued by fürer‘s dictatory. This real story we watch in the movie.

Is common to see Second World War in German Films in a different way as we can watch in other American movies, for exemplo. Just because the first showing feelings.Lili Marleen is a perfect example of it. First, because in a very ironic way Fassbinder shows the relation between Nazism, art and war. Second, Lili Marleen is a love song, very pretty and tells about a sad love story, the same case of Wikie and his love, but in their case, in the war. We can make any questions about love in wars, but this movie shows us how art and love can be a instrument for fight, how to understand the power of symbolism in any government especially Nazism dictatorship.

Watching Lili Marleen is a way to reflect about symbolism. One love song as a Nazism symbol could represents many things. It can represent a imaginary manipulation, because this song was always play in battlefield, and how it talks about loves,  death and separation, is a way to control soldiers and motivate them to fight more and finish this war for they go back home. Logic, it’s an idea that gives them hope, and with more hope the people can’t think about real reasons to do war.

The love between Wikie and Jewish is a poetic licence to show how stupid was Nazism. And the relation with the song is a most interesting in the story. In a romantic way, we can think that love doesn’t see differences. In a critic way, we can see that humans don’t know differences in feelings, and pains.

The film can be finding in DVD. On you tube is possible to see German singers playing Lili Marleen , and watch parts of movie.

The short story At your service

The short story At your service was written by Alan Maley. It tells about how distant one couple can be in marriage. And it just happens because they don’t know each other so well.

Eloise and Edoward have been married for twenty years, and have different lives under the same roof. She always hanged out with her friends, traveled to others countries, and spent a lot of money in restaurants, operas, parties etc. He always stayed at home, reading books, and sometimes, went to library. Just once a year, Edoward traveled to same country. One day, he went in travel and didn’t come back, Eloise started to be worried with him, until she received one Edoward’s letters, telling that he leaved her. Before she read the letter, Eloise openden Edoward’s room and discovered there many cards, books, photos about his travels. Five years later they met and she discovered a very good surprise about her ex-husband.

The most interesting thing in this text is the structure of the narrative. It starts telling that on September, 15, Eloise decided to open the room; and them the narrator explains her marriage making a description in parallelism about Eloise’s routine, showing a contrast between them. Later, it goes back to Eloise’s decision and makes another description showing a similarity between the couple. It finishes showing the situation when she understands how similar they are and it could be a reason to make a happy marriage if they knew each other so well.

In the end of the story, Eloise met Edoward in a party. In there, he is a waiter. About his fact we can do two interpretations. First, they always were similar, but how they choose the convenience as a marriage, they didn’t know, and for this reason it breaks. Second, she richest then him, and Edoward was so shame to tell Eloise his profession, because as she is a sociality is not good be marry with a waiter, and for this reason the title, At your service.

This short story is so interesting and can be find in the book Campbell’s Crossing and other very short stories edited by Penguin books

How was it possible?

On last 05th October Iris Rezende was reelected Goiãnia Mayor. It wasn’t surprise to goianienses, but let’s thinks about this process. Think about how was it possible, how the electorate was convinced, and how is possible to reflect about that.In Goiãnia there were four candidates. The actual mayor, Iris Rezende ; the candidate of governor, Sandes Júnior ; Gilvane Filipe and Martiniano Cavalcante, opposition’s candidate. It’s possible to point three aspects involved in this elections.

The first is the alliances. Iris Rezende made alliance with PT, one party that could make a strong opposition in Goiãnia. So, he destructed this possibility and them just can fight with the governor’ s candidate, Sandes Júnior. In reality this one could be one strong opposite if the party’s alliance was together in Goiãnia, in others words, he was alone in his election campaign. Gilvane Filipe, and was the first time that he try to be Goiãnia mayor, he made alliances with …. Martiniano Cavalcante is from PSOL, party from extreme left, with a communist ideology. What conclusion we can construct with it? Make alliances kill oppositions and pocket more money by businessmen. And Iris Rezende was more intelligent in that aspect, because make alliances with parties of the same ideology don’t kill oppositions, and Iris with PT showed it, especially because in 2004 Iris went to second turn with PT, and in this years he killed this possibility. Well, it was a good strategie.

The second important thing is media. Before the elections time in TV, Goianiense journalists declared Iris Rezende and Sandes Júnior as a candidates to second turn. When it started, the discourse changed because Sandes Júnior was alone is his campaign without Alcides Rodrigues and Marconi Perillo’ s support, and it wasn’t lucrative try to make he goes to second turn. And there’s another interesting thing to point about media and elections. They choose what subjects were dialed in elections campaigns: Traffic, healthy and public transportation, is good to point that these subjects were discussed superficially. It could be observed in politicians programs, the candidates talked just about it, made very gaudy promises, and didn’t discuss about teachers and doctor’s salary, or work conditions, for example: Sandes Júnior promised to substitute Eixo Anhanguera to metro, and construct one Municipal Hospital, and one nursery for each neighborhood in Goiãnia. The problem about these promises is how it can be possible collect money for doing these works. To finish this idea it’s good to observe the elections researches. It was ordered by media, and probably manipulated by them in according to media. Before elections programs they indicated second turn between Iris and Sandes, when it started, Iris had a very long vantage in Sandes.

Think about Iris‘s administration, if it was good or bad, could be one vantage for him, but it’s wasn’t a very fixed to win elections. Logic, in this election every candidates worked to critiqued and offended mayor’s administration, in reality this was the Iris vantage, the candidates fight each other to go to second turn and at the same time offended Iris, and people didn’t believe in those critics, because they believe in asphalt, Parks, viaducts, that were showed in Iris’ s program.

Those were the three aspects that reelected Iris Rezende as a Mayor: alliance, media and adversary critics. Not the people in absolute. They were manipulated to choose the goiãnia’s mayor. In truth, in many elections it happens. Democracy is the packaging; the product is a sweet politic, and media manipulation.

Science: we can believe in!

No, It’s not a kind of Obama’s jingle. It’s a kind of message to Brazilian people, and to the world. We’re going to show how important is believe in Brazilian talent to science. I’ve read one interview in “Caros Amigos” (Brazilian magazine, may 2008) with Miguel Nicolelis and he made me believe in this, let’s see what he said and them try to understand it.

Miguel Nicolelis is a neuroscientist and he studies how is possible to reconquer the movements in arms and leg in paralyzed people. He made one very important experiment that had a good repercussion in a science world: in a laboratory on North Carolina, one monkey using “Força do pensamento” made one robot walking in Japan. It represents that in a near future paralyzed people will walking. This was a very important discovery and all the sciences magazines published articles about it.In Brazil , no comments about that.

He was born in Bela Vista, São Paulo, Brazil, and he studied in a Public school Bandeirantes. In this school he discovered his passion for Biology, in a humanist vision. At College he studied to be neurosurgeon, but changed for neuroscientist and his biggest influence is Cesar Timo-Iaria, The Brazilian neuroscience founder in a humanist vision. In 1989 he went to U.S.A to make others studies about how is brain, and how it make us human people. Today he works in Macaíba, suburb of Natal city in Brazil northeast, where he constructed a kind of neuroscience institute with research center and there’s a healthy service for children and women. In that institute children student are making robots and studies science in a very humanist context. There are teachers from public school working there and other scientists studying Parkinson’ s disease models, neurofisiologia do sono, and codificação neural (how the brain can encode the information). And in last July was opened The First School of Neuroscience Studies in Brazil. To “Caros Amigos” Miguel Nicolelis talked about his humanist opinion about science and how it can be a social change in poor countries, he says: “The science can be one social transformation agent”.

That phrase represents one part of critic made by Miguel Nicolelis about the science in Brazil. His argue is that we don’t know our science potential, for example, Carlos Chagas and Santos Dumont. They showed to the world how talently Brazilians are when the opportunity appears. This is the Nicoleli’s objective in Macaíba: make opportunities to Brazilian people show their talent in science. But it’s a very difficult action, because the more aspect involved in it is ideology. Yes, he thinks that Brazil has an inferiority complex. We, Brazilians, think that another is better and we can’t value our intellectuals and scientists; our country. For this, change this ideology is the beginning of development here.

The second important thing in science development according to Nicolelis is the University vision. In Brazil, the teachers in college are working with authority, the real knowledge is teaching and producing with exchange of views between teachers and students. He says, “ The University has to open to Brazil”. It means that make science is create space to Brazilians study their ideas, apply strict methodologies to try this experiment or theory and persist in it, the real science is persistence, not show some academic titles. It’s a new purpose to teach for education here.

Ok, it’s a little part of the interview, but it’s clear to explain how important is believe in Brazilian potential. Backing to the interview, Nicolelis says that our brain constructs one world vision and we live to state or to deny it. I think that we have to change our world vision, and kill our conformism, if some things are not good, let’s change; if something important happens, let’s congratulate it. This is a real patriotism. For example, if the Brazillians universities are opening more places, and more courses, are using new strategies in vestibular to public students, we have to congratulate it. It’s an opportunity to our talent in knowledge, as Nicolelis says. For this, I change my title: Brazilians: we can believe in them.

Some true about football country

In every Olympiads we’ve seen women played football better than men. In Brazil, women always go to Olympiads and the men don’t. This year was different both teams go there to win the first gold medal to Brazilian football. Who is not Brazilian thinks: Oh, of course it’s a football country. But there’s a division about the way that women play football and the men play football. Not about the technique specific, (about that we can talk in another essay), but about to hurdle in sports.

The first obstacle is about the money. Yes, athletics need money to improve his performance, and to participate in championships, and money comes with supporting. Opposite of men, women don’t have big supports; there are some poor players in Brazilian team. And the CBF (Brazilian football Confederation) don’t work to change this situation. In Brazil we don’t have official regional championships, and the media just tell about women football in each four years. When the Olympiads finish, the women are finish too. In this year, before the Olympiads start the media was working about the Olympiad dream: just to men. Everyday the news showed his concentration, some interviews with Dunga and other players, especially Ronaldinho Gaúcho, and about women, nothing in special. When the competition had started and the Dunga team wasn’t so good they started to compare with women and change, not at all, their ideas about who’s going to realize the Olympiad dream. After the 3×0 to Argentina, some news published: “ Let’s go Girls! Show them how to do this”. Now, we discovered that this was fast, especially Rede Globo, because those journalists made documentaries despising women football qualify, in others words, very sexist documentaries.

In Beijing the Brazilian women team won silver medal, and the man, bronze. On the hand, we saw talent football players, and another hand, we saw just stars players with a medium talent. And CBF preferred that men win the gold medal. Because if the women has won this organization, probably, had to started to work for them, supports had came, advertisements had done, and this could be a big pressure to CBF. Unfortunately it’s not happened. The girls came back without good supports as the men, and everything came back normal in football country.

Of course, the performance of Brazil in Beijing wasn’t very good for every sport. But it’s strange that football didn’t give us good results, especially to the rest of the world, according to them we are the Football country. Yes, it’s true but the answer is that our politic sports doesn’t have a tradition to invests in all of the athletics equality, they depend of private companies, and these institutions choose which sport is going to win and be good, and which don’t. This is the first big problem about women, politik. The second is sexist, as was said.

This moment is important to discuss it. The women have to fight to conquer space independent of difficults. And we, fans, have to lean and motivate, in our cities, women players. We have to discover them, and to lean in their championships, in other words, help them to grow up to gold Olympiad in 2012.

The book and the love

Every day she took the bus at seven o’ clock, sat in front of the door and started to read a book. She‘s Sofia. And she loves reading García Marquez. In that time she was reading “El amor en los tiempos del colera”. In this book there are many reflections about love, it´s a love triangle. One man named Floretino Ariza dedicates all his love to one love: for Fermina Daza. She’s married. And while he hopes the death of her husband he tries the every ways to love.Reading this story, Sofia discovered two things about love: the afetive memory , and one true: there is no love without death. We need the death to start to love, and this death can be physical and symbolic, and this second is worse than first. In this moment we started to love in true.

Well, in this bus there was one boy that always sat near to Sofía and looker her.She knew that but couldn’t looking back. For many reasons: fear, shy, and absent-mindedness. One day this boy sat on her side.It was the day that she started to read “El amor en los tiempos del colera”. And he read with her. When Florentino sent the first letter to Fermina Daza, they started to talk and know each other. When Fermina Daza sent her first letter to Florentino Ariza they kissed each other and started their relation ship.

After two weeks the boy didn’t take the bus at the same time with Sofía, and she continued her reading alone. While this Fermina Daza  went to her cousin’s home, leaving alone Florentino Ariza. In her mind, Sofía living herself with the boy’ s image, his touch, and kiss.Florentino Ariza has written many letters to Fermina Daza, and Sofía has reading her book alone in anywhere.Florentino Ariza , after years, met Fermina Daza. She looked at his eyes and said: No, It was a mistake.Sofía was trying to understand why she’s reading her book alone. One day she missed her bus. When she came into the next bus, she saw the boy. Reading another book with another girl. This day, she read the Fermina’s marry and cried.

The afetive memory is a kind of a very image book.We always read these wonderful images. And we fell satisfied with it. Today, Sofia is in this book. The boy’s gone, but the love is alive in her memory book.

Today is diferent.First because It’s an educational blog heheh, and them because when you become a be adult, you express your feeling with other ways. But the most important about this blog is the title.”Aude Sapere” means Dare to know! And this is our purpose with this blog.

We want to dare to know telling stories in many ways of writing. As Roland Barthes says we are a narrator human, and this blog wants to express it.

So, let’s have a good time with it!
